Margret and Karen were particularly touched by the plight of the Tasmanian Devil with recent outbreak of a facial tumour disease threatening this Tasmanian icon.

“Every single one of our guests so far has come to see Tasmania’s wildlife”, Margret explained, “I cannot stand by and watch one of Tasmania’s icon animals being decimated. Our visitors are always very supportive of conservation initiatives, so we decided to set up an initiative to support the Tasmanian Devil Field Monitoring Fund. For every client who books with us we will donate $5 to the Fund. We hope that other tourism operators will follow suit and have designed a sticker that can be personalised by any other business. The design was done for the recent Tasmanian Tourism Awards and the student who designed it has agreed that her work may be used for such a worthy cause.”

SELFDRIVEAUSTRALIA is committed to sustainable tourism and its vision is closely aligned with Tasmania’s image of a wilderness destination where untouched nature can still be found liberally.

However, the vision of this Tasmanian business does not stop here – plans for the launch of products in all other Australian states have come to fruition already. In addition, the website will be duplicated in the German language to attract a market that is particularly fond of Australia as a long haul holiday destination.

“The internet allows us to operate from Tasmania with a shopfront open to the world – that is our vision”, muses Margret. And she may well have a point – the business has already received bookings from UK, the USA, Switzerland, Cypress and several states on the mainland!
